چکیده

Background: The objective of this study was to assess the impact of metacognitive training and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on the quality of life, worry levels, and overall psychological well-being in women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Methods: The current study was a semi-experimental type with a pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up design, conducted with two teaching groups and one control group. The statistical population of this research included all women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) who visited specialized women's clinics in Tehran from April to September 2023. A sample of 45 individuals was selected using purposive sampling. The cognitive-behavioral training group was provided with two 60-minute sessions of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) every week for a total of eight weeks.

Results: The current study's results indicate that the P-value for the Worry variable was significant (p<0.001). Additionally, the P-value for the Worry variable was also significant in the components of self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, and environmental mastery (p<0.001). On the contrary, there was no significant difference in the components of purpose in life and personal growth at any stage (P>0.05). Moreover, the P-value for the components of psychological health, social relationships, and environmental health was significant (p<0.001).

Conclusion: The results of this research indicate that metacognitive training and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) are successful in decreasing worry and enhancing different components of psychological health and overall quality of life in females with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
