Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the role of psychological patterns and use of smart phones and laptops on neck pain. The research method was correlation type. The statistical population was all male and female students of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad (Iran), 242 were selected by multi-stage cluster method. The research tools also include the NEO Personality Inventory test (NEO-PI); Anxiety, stress and depression (DASS-21), Nordic neck pain and a researcher-made questionnaire to check the hours of using smart phone and laptop. Information and data were analyzed using the structural equation model. The results of the research showed that personality traits and their dimensions (such as flexibility, neuroticism, introversion/extroversion, work conscientiousness and agreeableness), mental tension and its subscales (anxiety, depression and stress) and hours of using Smartphone and laptop could not have a significant effect on neck pain (P>0.05) (Power AGFI > 0.90, Power RMSEA > 0.90). For this reason, it can be concluded that neck pain is one of the phenomena that needs to be investigated in a wider and deeper way.
