Klein-Levin Syndrome in a young woman: A case report

Abstract

This case report examines the symptoms and history of Klein-Lewin disease in a young woman who presented with sleep problems.

This patient went to a neurologist complaining of headache, at the same time, he also complained of feeling weak, tired and sleepy, so he was referred to a psychiatrist.

He mentioned that he had oversleeping in different periods of his life, but in the last few years, it has become more severe and now, due to the accompanying headache, this oversleeping has become unbearable for him.

He had trouble sleeping since he was ten years old, he could not stay awake while studying.

He mentions that his long-term memory has had problems since childhood and he does not remember many of his memories. He also mentions that in recent years he has writings that he does not know who wrote them, or he has items that he does not know who bought them or How did he get it? Also, he doesn't remember the places he has been many times before.

When he went to the psychiatrist, it became more clear by taking a full history of periods of excessive sleep, a full medical work-up was performed, which was all normal, and a polysomnography was performed for him.

Finally, he was diagnosed with Klein-Levin syndrome and was treated with modafinil, bupropion, lithium, and amitriptyline.
