The Effect of Self-regulation-oriented Teaching on Anxiety Reduction of Female Students of Upper Secondary School of Mashhad (2017)

Introduction: Mental disorders have created many problems in modern societies, especially in the school age group. Unfortunately, in most parts of the world, mental health is not considered to be as good as physical health. Therefore, this research has been done with the aim of raising the knowledge of students about their reduction of anxiety and improving mental health using the self-regulation model.
Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 103 female students from the 10th grade (47 controls and 56 intervention groups) were selected. Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), Beck Anxiety, and Self-Regulatory Learning Strategies were the tools used in this study. Finally, the data for the pretest, immediately and three months after the test were entered into SPSS-24 software and data analysis was done.
Results: Mean and standard deviation of anxiety and mental health scores were statistically significant in the two groups before, immediately and three months after the intervention (p-value=0.05). The only correlation with the anxiety variable, the motivational component with coefficient -0.29, also had a positive correlation with the mental health variable, anxiety variable with a coefficient of 0.5 and negative correlation with the motivational variable with a coefficient of -0.21.
Conclusion: According to the findings, education can affect the improvement of mental health and reduce the anxiety of female students. As a result, self-regulation learning can be useful for students' academic performance and mental health.
