Comparison of the effects of attachment behavior and relaxation training on maternal fetal attachment and infant in prime pregnant women

Abstract

 Introduction: This study aimed to compare the effect of attachment behavior with relaxation training on maternal fetal attachment and infant prime pregnant.  
 Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 126 pregnant prime gravida women. The participants consisted of pregnant women who referred to Hafiz and Shushtari hospitals in Shiraz. The method of sampling was simple sample into three groups: 42 patients were selected randomly and divided into three groups of relaxation training, attachment training and control.  The instruments used included a form for demographic information, maternal fetal attachment (Cranly) questionnaire, and maternal neonatal (Avant) questionnaire. Experimental groups underwent four two-hour sessions of training courses on attachment behaviors during childbirth and relaxation The control group received usual care during their pregnancy. Maternal fetal attachment scores were calculated before and at the end of the first three months in the three groups. . Also, maternal attachment to the baby was measured through Avant sheet. The statistical software SPSS version 17 was used to analyze the data. Chi-square, T- test, and paired test were applied.  
 Results: The mean attachment score in three groups before the intervention was not significantly different (P=0.738) but the mean scores after the intervention were significantly different in the three (P=0.003). Increase in the attachment scores, after the intervention was significant among the groups (P=0.001). But the difference in the control group after the intervention was not significant.
 Conclusion: Education attachment behaviors and relaxation increase the attachment of the mother to the fetus and infant.
